ABOUT ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Most men will experience erectile dysfunction (ED) at some point in their lives (either as a one-off or recurrent problem). It may often be a natural part of the ageing process. While there are a number of different causes for ED, in most cases it is due to a reduced blood flow to the penis when aroused. Luckily, there are medicines (such a those listed above) which have been designed to help improve this.
It's important to bear in mind, however, that ED can often be a symptom of health conditions that affect your blood vessels and heart (such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol). As such, it is always best to have a health check to rule out the possibility of your ED being related to a more serious underlying health condition.

How ED treatments work

Erectile dysfunction treatments work by relaxing the arteries which supply blood to the penis, allowing for an increased flow of blood.  

Premature Ejaculation PE

Premature or rapid ejaculation describes the condition where a man ejaculates (cums) too quickly. In its severe and rare form the man cums before any direct stimulation to the penis occurs, just thinking about sexually stimulating situations may trigger his ejaculation.
It is more common for the man to ejaculate either during or very soon after penetration. Studies suggest the average Ejaculatory Latency Time (ELT) or the normal average time for the man to ejaculate is 3-5 minutes after penetration. Obviously some men regularly last much longer than this just as there are men who regularly ejaculate much quicker.

The most important criteria of rapid ejaculation are:

  • That ejaculation occurs sooner than the man and his partner wishes
  • And this is causing distress in their sexual relationship
  • Longer sex does not equal better sex
  • Premature ejaculation is not a lack of duration, but a lack of control
It is important to take the partner's wishes into account because what may seem rapid to the man may be already too long for the partner. Most men experience rapid ejaculation on occasions. There is nothing to be worried about.
It becomes a problem only when it occurs during most sexual interactions. Studies show that about 40% of men are troubled by this problem on more then an occasional basis. The effects of rapid ejaculation can be detrimental on relationships. Usually rapid ejaculation has psychological reasons. Physical origins are rare.


When partners are different in experiencing Sexual Desire and Libido.

It is a common but misguiding belief that lovers should be sexually in tune at any time they attempt to have sex. This is far from the truth about human sexual reality.

Our primary sex organ is our human brain, who’s job it is to send signals of sexual arousal via the spinal cord nervous system to the genitals, and directing sufficient blood flow into the erectile tissue of the penis or clitoris, and surges the breasts with blood and increased sensation, causing and the breast nipples to harden and stand up.
It is easy to understand that, when our brain is not focused on sexual attraction or sexual fantasy, signals of arousal are likely to fail.
Physical and mental energy is required to convert sexual arousal into sexual action. Poor physical and mental health, certain pharmaceutical medication, recreational drugs, excess alcohol, hormonal imbalance, sexual incompetence, low self esteem, stress, worry, a history of sexual trauma, pain, unresolved relationship upheaval, grief, depression, tiredness, overwhelm - all may distract from arousal and/or desire.

Sexual desire discrepancy, low libido, and a lack of sexual arousal cause many disruptions to a fulfilling sex life;

  • The sexually more 'switched on' partner may believe they are unable to please their lover, or might feel anger and rejection when their needs are not being met.
  • The sexually less responsive partner might feel increasingly under pressure, which rather leads to sexual incompetence, performance anxiety, frustration, and avoidance.
  • Changing positions and other 'bed room acrobatics' as the only form of remedy usually does not help.

            FOOD TO BE TAKING TO PREVENT ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION 


  • Dark green vegetables.  Dark green vegetables are a good source of zinc.  Zinc has been proven to improve blood flow to the major organs, and has been shown to improve blood flow to the penis in those with ED.  High levels of zinc also improves prostate health.

  • Foods High in Potassium (especially for older men age 6o and above).  Foods high in Potassium is a natural combatant to the high levels of sodium found in most canned and processed foods.  Just as too much salt leads to high blood pressure,  low potassium levels throws off the natural balance of electrolytes and causes high blood pressure.

  • Foods low in sugar.  High consumption of sugar is a major contributor to weight gain and Type 2 Diabetes.  Unhealthy weight gain puts pressure on the heart and and major organs to function properly.  When the heart has to work harder to pump blood to the organs, it is more difficult to pump the massive amount of blood needed to get and maintain an erection.  Eating too much sugar can lead to insulin resistance, meaning the body is unable to produce enough insulin to convert sugar to energy, and is the leading cause of Type 2 Diabetes.

  • Foods low in fat.  Eating foods high in fat is a major contributor to weight gain and heart disease.  The body stores excess fat from foods.  Unhealthy weight gain puts pressure on the heart and and major organs to function properly.  When the heart has to work harder to pump blood to the organs due to weight gain and heart disease, it is more difficult to pump the massive amount of blood needed to get and maintain an erection.  Eating a diet low in fat will help the body use up the excess fat, and maintain optimum body weight and help prevent heart disease, thus ensuring sufficient blood flow to the major organs, including the penis, which requires a large amount of blood to achieve and maintain an erection.

  • Foods low in cholesterol and trans-fats.  There are two types of cholesterol,  LDL (Low-density lipoprotein) and HDL (High-density lipoprotein)  LDL is the “bad cholesterol”  that builds up in the arteries causing coronary heart disease and a leading cause of heart attacks.  Foods high in LDL are  those that contain tran-fats, such partially hydrogenated oil.  HDL is the “good cholesterol”  that scrubs the arteries of the plaque build-up that impairs good flow of blood through the body.  Foods high in Niacin (Vitamin B) are naturally high in HDL cholesterol.  Triglycerides is both HDL and LDL.  You should have high HDL and low LDL.  See your doctor for a cholesterol test to see how much LDL and HDL is in your blood, especially if you suffer from erectile dysfunction.

  • Foods High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids.  Omega-3 Fatty Acids are essential to control heart disease, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and more.  Heart Disease and hypertension are leading causes of sexual dysfunction, and many men who report weak erections have diets low in Omega-3 Fatty Acids.  Foods high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids are fish, flaxseed, walnuts, eggs, Canola Oil, and pumpkin seeds.  DHA supplements are another way to boost your intake of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

  • Fruits, including bananas, strawberries, cantaloupe, oranges and watermelon are an essential source of phyto-nutrients.  Watermelon especially is a good source of lycopene.  Lycopene relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow, similar to how Viagra works, but naturally and without the side effects.
Eating a healthy diet containing foods low in sugar, fat, sodium and trans-fats and eliminating foods high in trans-fat, cholesterol, sodium and sugar will help prevent erectile dysfunction.  Eliminating the bad foods can lower blood pressure,  reduce the build up of plaque in the arteries that can lead to coronary artery disease, and reducing the likelihood of developing Type II Diabetes by preventing insulin resistance.  It is also important to get plenty of exercise and 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night.

Sex Addiction 

Sex addiction is a distorted form of a normal human life-enhancing sexuality. The difference between 'normal' and 'distorted' lies in a learnt destructive motivation to sex, rather than the sexual behaviour itself.

Untreated sex addiction causes harm and interrupts the addicts normal life and their relationships, and is the causation of severe emotional distress to their spouses. Families, friends, and work environments, all suffer from the impact of sexual addictions.
Sex addiction can be fully treated. It is important to realise that sex addiction is not a moral failure, but can be defined as a stress-induced defect acting on a genetic vulnerability in the reward-learning (dopamine) system of the mid-brain, and the memory-choice (glutamate) system in the prefrontal cortex, leading to loss of control and to persistent cravings, despite an awareness of negative consequences.

  5. Men often come up with a wrong definition for ED. The inability to get an erection every now and then due to stress or fatigue is not defined medically as ED.

  6. Erectile Dysfunction and Premature Ejaculation are both sexual dysfunction and needs proper attention to address the underlying cause of it.
